WELCOME

The Traveler’s Channel on WebWorld TV welcomes you to THE Sacramento/Lake Tahoe Area.  Let’s go to the Lake area first.  Actually, there is no town called Lake Tahoe.  On the Nevada side, it’s Stateline, and in California, the town is officially South Lake Tahoe.  To most folks it all just Lake Tahoe, and they describe where they are by saying “Nevada side” or “California side”.)   Year ‘round, Lake Tahoe is a vacationer’s paradise. The warmer months offer boating, diving, water sports, and swimming – there are 29 beaches!  And when it’s a bit colder, the skiers come to town for perfect powder.  Anytime, you’ll find great shopping, sightseeing, spectacular shows, and of course, the chance to be on Lady Luck’s good side for a night.

AHHH, THE LAKE

Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America, and one of the most magnificient, certainly one of the most beautiful, anywhere in the world.  The crystal clear lake is 22 miles long and 12 miles wide, and there is a scenic (and then some!!!), easily travelled roadway all around it.  Most of the lake is in California.  Mark Twain, who, as a young man, worked as a newspaper writer in nearby Virginia City (www.virginiacity-nv.org)  – and, in fact, dubbed himself Mark Twain for the first time while there (his real name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens) – is known for several dramatic quotes about the lake.  One, from 1861 goes: “the eye never tired of gazing, night or day, calm or storm.”

THE GOVERNATOR’S OFFICE

Sacramento, capital city of California.  What a city!  The population of the city of Sacramento is roughly 500,000, but the population of its five-county metropolitan area is 2.5 million.  The capital building is one of the most beautiful in the country, and if it looks a wee bit familiar, it was built to be reminiscient of, but not a copy of, the United States Capital building in Washington.  It was completed in 1874, and has, in recent years undergone major rennovation and repairs.

DIXIELAND – CALIFORNIA STYLE

Sacramento is a fun town to visit.  There is a no holds barred dixieland blowout every Memorial Day weekend  called the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee.  The section of town known as “Old Sac”  which is a restored and well preserved area where Sacramento originated,  comes alive with musicians, magicians, and merry folk of all stripes.  “Old Sac” is fun anytime, however, as there are many historic buildings, unique shops, museums, and restaurants to satisfy any taste.  There is a monument in “Old Sac” to the Pony Express which, in 1860  made Sacramento its western terminus.  Oh. If you’re a flower lover, you should know that Sacramento is known as the Camillia capital of the world.
